There is a cliff note version of the complaint in the comments section.

If what Mr. Neal is claiming is true, I hope he takes Fox 6 to the cleaners.

It is utterly ridiculous to put Mr Neal through that!! Fox 6 no longer is my station of choice and I think we need to let them know it. Good luck David!!!

This has settlement written all over it. If it goes to court, the name of the "personality" will be out in the open and viewers will turn against Fox6. Neal will likely win a settlement, a public apology and the right to work on air in this market.

can someone give me the cliffnotes version of this. i can't read it. thx.

If Neal actually wins the right to work in the Birmingham market, I wonder where her would end up? Not Fox 6, obviously. Not 33/40, with its full compliment of meteorologists and a big name. Not NBC 13, with another big name. That leaves the ratings trailing CBS 42. Would Neal be happy there, I wonder?

Cliff Notes Version:

-The new Fox director was upset that Neal complained about another person being drunk at town hall meeting. Neal started to be harrrassed because station didn't want poteintal buyers to know about incident.

- Neal's personal assistant was let go and next Town meeting was cancelled.

- Neal told Plantiff about taking medication and received a letter about being taking Medicial leave even though he didnt request it.

-Neal father became ill and while staying with him at UAB, Neal became sick and a nurse told him about a lockdown that occured earlier. He told the news department but found out that there wasn't a lockdown.
He was off two days and was told not to come back.

- Returned to work and covered a cut-in thunderstorm.

-Planitff met with him about excessive absences and performace issues and he was suspended.

- Received an email stating suspension was not due to illness or absences but dishonest and insubordinate.

- After his supsension he was fired on March 31st.
Neal claims Breach of Contract, Intentional Interence, Outrageous Conduct, Civil Conspiracy, Fraud

Lots on Anon on this one

Anon1- I bet we would be happy to be released from the non-compete clause.

Anon2-We have Helena Local Brian Peters at ABC.

Anon3-I agree, it really looks like he is trying for a settlement. I'm sure Fox's Lawyers made his firing pretty tight. His real threat is public disclosure of events and public sympathy in a jury.

Anon4-It's on here now.

Peter- That is a really good observation. You are right. He is limited on where he can go in the area.

Helena Lawman- Thanks!

WOW Hewy, you had a few new comments on this one! This is such a mess! I hope it gets resolved and everyone can move on. Have a great day!

Haven't seen any speculation on who the intoxicated person at the town hall meeting was who appealed to "a certain demographic".

What could that possibly mean except this person is African-American? I don't know how else to interpret that.

"Helena Lawman's" summary is basically correct. However, he seems confused about the term plaintiff. David Neal is the plaintiff, while Fox6 Birmingham and various members of station management are among the named defendants.

Just sayin'

I love that no one thinks for a second that David Neal might be lying, or that he actually deserved to be fired. Please. There are 2 sides to every story, you've heard one.

PS - I wouldn't get too excited about seeing David back on TV. Stations don't like to hire lawsuit happy whiners.

Well, as anticipated, lots of opinions and all over the place. When you have a wife working in the same market, what are you going to do? She is under contract with her station, and if he is precluded from working in his field in this market, he deserves to at the very least be released from the non-compete. I hope there is not a settlement. I'd like to see it go to trial by jury and get down to the truth of everything. If you're going to launch such an action, then go the distance. I am not pro or con the allegations, but I have my ideas about the other "personality" .. he likes to frequent the clubs on 280 and thinks he's a really big deal!

They don't want Davids past to be exposed. Like when he and his current wife A.L. left their families to be with each other. I have no sympathy for someone that would do that.

Can I just throw out a little sanity here? The dude is a TV Weatherman. Not exactly important when you look at the bigger picture. Aren't there a few, slightly more serious issues floating around these days? I sure wish people would get this excited about over-taxation, energy independence, or even the loss of personal freedom.

Well, a little "birdie" told me the unnamed person who was tipsy is Mickey Ferguson....not sure about this, but that's the rumor.

Why is it that everyone is ready with an opinion and "verdict" on subjects like this? It really is not any of our business and they should be allowed to work this out without all of our speculation rumors and judgements. I tend to agree with shadowhelm & Abbey on this.

I am so disappointed to find out about the situation between David Neal and Fox6. David has been my favorite Fox6 guy for years. Now I have to go back to James Spann on 33/40. If what David says is the truth, I wish him all the best in getting what he can from his former employer. May God be with him during all of this, and may the truth be know in the end. Wishing David the best, and I hope to see you again soon on a station here in B'ham. A fan from Hueytown

""***breaking news***

david neal will be formally offered the job at cbs 42 today.""

First off: did that happen or what?
Second: Source? I don't buy random comments without a source?

HEWY said...

It is strange. We'll see if it is true. CBS has their 1 year annv. Weds.

Anonymous said...

it has been offered, not accepted yet...although it is expected to happen anyday now.

I work at FOX6 but have a close friend who works at 42...he claims it is, "the worst kept secret at the station" that they have been courting him for sometime now.

I also have a second source who saw Neal having lunch with 42's GM less than two weeks ago.

So my source is second hand, but very reliable.

as I told you all a while ago...

He was formally hired Friday. No start date confirmed as of yet. He will be doing weekend weather...although it is being rumored that he will actually slowly move into the monday through friday gig and Prater will be moved to weekends....which only makes sense. Neal is twice the talent of Prater and has more than twice the following here in Alabama.
