Elections, Council and a Surprise Homecoming

Runoff Elections
There is an republican runoff election today from 7am-7pm so be aware of traffic by the polling site. It is Chip v. Twinkle. I'm bias for Chip Brown because he visit Helena during his campaign, he's an underdog,  and I like that he was a boy scout leader too. I would like to see more State level candidates coming to Helena to speak.

PHS Fishing Team
Vanessa told me that Nino's Italian restaurant  will be giving 10% of there sales Tuesday April 24 th to Pelham High School's Fishing Team. Please come out to support  PHS Fishing Team. (I wish they had a fishing team when I was in school)

City Council Meeting
The City Council met on Monday evening. Everyone was there but one and they passed the minutes and bills with one abstention. The first business was the Penhale Baseball field. I had heard about this issue a few weeks ago from Wendy West who sent an email around about the problem. There were a lot of parents concerned by the lack of a fence around the bleachers. Children were running around and no one wanted to see a child hurt by a car.

Kevin and Kim Cato came to speak and request that the City build a fence. Kevin had volunteered to install the fence for free if the City would purchase the supplies. He owns Homeworx Home Improvements. Katherine Ennis asked about the marking on the parking lot and said that they should also address that problem next. Cris Nelson asked why one bleacher was not included in the plan. Leigh Hulsey talked about the use of the bleachers and the design of the fence. Cris asked about the gate size so utilities could enter the field and Katherine asked if emergency service vehicles would be able to enter.

Kevin and Kim that that the design would include the main bleachers and that they could move the bleachers if needed. Also there would be two gates which would be large enough for utilities and emergency vehicles.  Staci Storey, who had just came from the field, spoke about problems with the field and the parking lot and said it has been needed for awhile. The City had received two bids from Chilton fence and Homeworks. Greg Eddins asked which budget would be used to pay for it, The Mayor said it would be from the Parks and Rec. Kevin was asked how long it would take to build and he estimate it would take a week to install the fence. Jerry Pate motion that they accept the lowest bid and begin the project. The City Council voted to approve the price given from  Homeworx Home Improvements and to begin installation of the fence.

The next business was a home occupation license for Jeremiah Davis in 1206 Dunham Lane. He was operating a physical fitness training business from his house. George Pickle said he had received 4 complaints from people in the neighborhood about it and said the owner did not get a license from the City. The business owner was not in the meeting so the request for the license was declined.

A Homecoming Surprise
On theWeds night of You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" at Pelham High School, Andy Vildibil, who plays Schroeder, got a big surprise with his parents Louis and Donna Vildibil of Helena. His brother Alex was able to come home from his deployment and surprise them on stage. You can see it on the youtube video below. He also was able to see 3 year old son for the first time as well. It was a wonderful homecoming for Helena. This  is a picture of Alex and his 8 month old little girl, Lyra. Welcome Home to Helena Alex!
