Of farm animals

Tomorrow will be a longer post because of the sheer volume of events that will be occurring this weekend in Helena. I spent part of today finishing Lincoln: Vampire Killer, and fasting for the Scale Down Alabama contest at work. I also did some asking around about a rumor of a new franchise restaurant eyeing Helena. I did this because someone message me on facebook about it then I received it in another email. So I messaged City Hall and they said  there was something going on with it and they will pass it along if it becomes a sure thing.

So I have just two others bits of interesting of interesting news that are also related to farm animals and Helena:
Cows in Heat
I love reading US patents. I love it even more, when I run across one that is held by someone in Helena, and I am ecstatic when I come across that is brilliant or unusual. This one is from 25 years ago and is held in part by William E. Meyers of Helena, Ala. It is a "method and substance for the detection of cows in Estrus"! That is to say, a way to detect when a cow is in "heat". Here is the description of the process, a small fabric patch which contains small tubes containing colored fluid will be attached to a cow which will react to the pressure so you can tell if the cow is open to mating by the color of this device. There are some really funny jokes that could be made at this point but I will show discretion and just end this story now.
Rubber Duck Race Ticket Locations
I was messaging with Martha, who is new to Helena, and reminded me that many readers have recently moved here. So I should probably say a bit more about the BCF.
The Buck Creek Festival is the single biggest event in Helena. It fact, I think it is the largest self funding two day concert festival with a charity duck race down a waterfall in the world!!! (feel free to try to prove me wrong on that).  Beside getting to hang out and listen to eleven bands perform for free, there is also the rubber duck race where you can win big prizes if your duck is the first one over the finish line. You can get a duck number at theses fine establishments below and all the money goes to Safe House of Shelby County.

As long as the Z doesn't try again to build to the entrance to our neighborhood like they tried before, they are welcome. Hopefully, they want the old Backyard Burger joint.
