It was a year ago today that the tornadoes torn through Alabama. I remember standing on my deck listening to the police scanner and chatting with all of you on twitter and facebook as we were trying to figure out what was happening. In Old Cahaba, our power went out right when we saw the live video feed of the monster tornado ripping through Tuscaloosa. But the days after, people in Helena started supply drives to help the survivors. There were collection point all over Helena and literally truck loads of supplies were sent from Helena to those who needed them. It was a horrible time but a wonderful time for the spirit of giving.

Follow Ups
Here's some follow up to stories from this week:
- Iyaz Visit to HMS: From Doug: FYI... because of travel issues... the time line for IYAZ's appearance at HMS has changed to the afternoon.
- Helena Racing: Brian Peters, Helenites and Weatherman, also got a chance to race at Talladega. Sweet Mercy, everyone in Helena is getting a chance to race. When do they invite bloggers? You can see the video at AlabamaWX site.
- Scam or Not: Glenn responded to the story that a reader had about home buying. His thoughts were, "If someone makes you an offer to buy based on your refunding the overage of a cashiers check, you might as well go ahead and call the police. In fact, you should. It's always a scam."
- LifeWay Women's Event: The email address for seminar at Riverside Baptist Church is kcjacks77@att.net and there website is http://rbchelena.org
VOFW Eagle
Davis Faulkner of Helena received great news! He was named the 2012 Veterans of Foreign Wars State of Alabama Eagle Scout of the Year. He will now represent Alabama for the national VFW Eagle Scout of the Year. He is pictured above with another Eagle Scout and Aviation Pioneer LTC Ed Yeilding at his Eagle Dedication in 2007. LTC Yeilding has his SR-71 Blackbird is in the Smithsonian next to the Enola Gay.
Animal Cruelty investigation
An anonymous person sent out emails earlier this week to different news outlets about about a Helena dog breeder. The email has a picture of a deceased dog (didnt post because it was decomposing) and the breeder was accused of animal cruelty. Fox News came out to Helena to investigate (It showed on the 9pm news). The owner stated in the article that the allegations are not true and Helena police are investigating . Ask an Expert
Susan Wiggonton is part of an Ask a Helena Expert series. Here is a question she received from a reader:
"Here's a Real Estate question/answer related to Thursday's post from reader trying to sell home by owner:
Question: What can a Realtor do to help sell my home that I can't do myself?
Answer: A Realtor who lists your home for sale can require that all prospective buyers are pre-approved before showing your home - we want to show only to folks who can truly purchase.
A Realtor will be present for all showings of your home, so you don't have to rearrange your schedule to be there and not know who you are opening your door to and bringing inside your home.
A Realtor provides advertising of your property to multiple websites, email campaigns, "talking" signs, etc. at no cost to you.
A Realtor provides a sign and lockbox for your home.
A Realtor will communicate with agents who have shown your property about possible offers, and the list continues until the home sells and is closed".
