Happy Birthday Helena Library!

Birthday Party
Today (9/6/12)  is the Helena Library's 25th Birthday! There will be events all day starting at 11am when they will have Storytime for those children who are too young for school. They will have balloons, refreshment and fun. At 5:30pm there will be a musical program. You can also bring presents to the library like: cleaning or office supplies or even gift cards to places like Publix, Staples, Booksamillion, or Zone1. Join us at 230 Tucker Road Helena, AL and celebrate by checking out a book or video (Helena's Library has one of the largest dvd collections around). You can also enjoy free wifi, and audio book downloads.

Helena business and Tour de Helena
Laura Brookhart interviewed the Helena Business Association President David Schlueter and they discussed the business climate of Helena. They also mention the Blues & BBQ festival and something new, “an early spring 2013 Tour de Helena bicycle racecourse that would attract avid bikers with the challenging hills of Dearing Downs racing to a finish line in Old Town”. I have not heard anything about it but I love to see that happen.full article

Sharing Information
Someone recently asked me on facebook why police cars were speeding toward an event. I told them what I knew. Later I received a message from someone who was upset that I was sharing information that could help criminals.  I just want to assure everyone that I don’t have access to any secret classified information. I follow scanners and the Shelby County Sheriff Dispatch website . It is a public source of information about what is happening. There seems to be a time delay on the website so the information would not be very useful for a criminal. You can check it out here: http://www.shelbyal.com/shelbyso/eventweb

I would love to see a Helena public safety alert system in the future. A website where you can choose the type of alert you would like to receive. For example: road closing (accident and weather), missing child, suspect wanted,  traffic delay, etc.  then you could chose the method of receiving that alert like text message, tweet, facebook message, email, voice message.

Helena Police Report
For August 20th -26th 2012
A few points on this report, I replaced a particular drug with the phrase “mary jane” since making corporate firewalls will ban my site if I use too many drug terms. Also when you see Helena Middle Parking lot, you shouldn’t get worried since the police just note where they pulled the car over during a traffic stop. It doesn’t mean that someone from the school was charged. I get all my information from the Shelby County ReporterFinally most of these are Helena Police reports but some are from the Shelby County Sheriff. I note when that occurs.
