Congrats to Laura Brookhart who is a Helena resident as well as a local news reporter. She has won the 4th Annual SCAC Juried Art Exhibit Best of Photography with the above creation called Daylily Frenzy. I would be willing to bet that the inspiration for this art piece came from Helena's Dancing Daylily Farm. Not only does Laura cover local events for the media, she contribute her spare time to helping local events like the Helena Farmer Market. She is truly a giver to the community and I am proud to call her a friend.
Business Goodbye Sale
I hate to be the bearing of bad news right after sharing about La Reunion's closing but Jeffrey emailed me and said that Avalon Blue Interiors, formerly know as Showhouse Furniture will be closing.
"We appreciate all our Helena and surrounding areas for right at 16 years of business. We will be liquidating starting this Friday (10-4pm), Saturday(9am-till whenever) and Sunday (12-4). Just wanted you to know and we hope to see you this weekend".
I really didnt want to see them go. Last year I bought all my living furniture from them and got a better price than I could at any furniture store. They are sure to have some awesome deals so stop by there and see what they have going.

The Helena Athletic Assoc will have a Board meeting this Sunday 7pm at the Depot. They will be talking about a Pancake Breakfast and the Panther Prowl
Little Italy and JDRF
Katie and a group of her friends are having a fundraiser at Little Italy Pizza this Friday night from 5-9 to raise money for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. Katie has been Type 1 diabetic for 7 yrs and they have walked for the last 2 years. This year she wanted to do more to raise money.So if you don't have any dinner plans then swing by there on Friday night and enjoy the pizza buffet.
Maggie shared that our award winning PHS Pantherettes are having two fundraisers to fund their trip to national. The first one will be this Saturday morning (Sept. 8th) Pancake Breakfast at Applebee's in Pelham on Hwy 119 from 8am to 10am. $5.00 donation - so tell everyone to come eat breakfast with the Pantherettes
The second will be a Little Girl Dance Clinic at PHS on Sept 22nd for girls kindergarten through 5th grade. You can email lcochran@shelbyed.k12.al.us to sign up for that.
Papa Saia's Weekend Events
On Friday night and all day Saturday Papa Saias will be giving away tickets to the Alabama vs FAU game. The drawing will be on Sept 15th. Ask your server or bartender how you can qualify.
On Friday they will have a Wing Buffet from 11am-2pm with Matt Broach playing from 8pm-12am
On Saturday they will have football games on and Sexy Tractor on the patio from 8pm-12am
On Sunday they will have Matt Hill on the Patio from 2pm-6pm
Rio's Bar and Grill
On Friday 9pm DJ Fuzzy
On Saturday 9pm the Piston who are a Classic & Southern Rock Band will be there with a $5 cash cover at the door.
Scout Bus Repair
Boy Scout Troop 532 is going to be conducting several events to raise funds to repair their Troop Bus, which is vital in the life of the Troop. Their first event is this Saturday, September 8, at the Alabaster Wal-Mart from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, where scouts will be selling boy scout popcorn . Please support your local scouts. All proceeds will go directly towards repairing the bus.
