Thriller: The Helena 5th grade cheerleaders wow'd the crowds with a performance of "Thriller" complex with costumes and makeup. Way to Go! I wanted to steal some photos off facebook but if you have some that you want to share then message me and I will get them up.
HIS: Students in Mrs. Miller's class are studying "Geo-literacy." The students collected data on items found in their homes and created graphs to show the origin of the items. Then they created charts on the computer to present their data both ways. Full Story
Mayor: Mayor Elect Mark Hall was mentioned in an article about how there have been so man y new Mayors in Shelby County. Newly elected Pelham Mayor Gary Waters said that he looked forward to working with him. It is interesting how a lot of these elections results in former city employees winning positions. Helena High Mascot and Colors
A quick reminder that everyone in the Helena community is invited to a meeting on Tuesday, Oct 16th, at 7 PM in the Helena Middle School cafeteria. The purpose of the meeting will be to share information on the selection process for the school colors and mascot that will be used in the coming weeks, how the committee was selected, and the time line for the selection process.
Helena's Weekend Events
Please come out Saturday and Support the Panther Prowl for the Helena Middle School. If you haven't signed up then you can still run. It is $25 on raceday and you need to get there early. The 5k race started at 8am and the Fun run starts at 9am. Come out and Support the school and then go check out the other events around town.

Helena Hamfest
The Helena Hamfest will be this weekend at the Amphitheater from 9am-1pm. What is a Hamfest? It is an event for Amateur radio enthusiast also known a Ham Radio. They will have fans from around Alabama gather to share information and sell technology. They surf the radio frequency spectrum and engage in wireless communication without cell phones. So if you are a Ham radio operator, or just want to learn more, it will be from 9am-1pm. They will be having prize drawings as well as vendor tables. It is free to the public. Fall Bazaar
The Helena Cumberland Church (Across from the Elementary School) on Helena Road will have a Fall Bazaar from 8am-3pm. They will have 27 vendors including craft booths, food and games. Also a silent auction with AU signed football, VIP tickets and parking pass to the Music City Bowl, UA 2009 National Championship Limited Edition Poster, bowling certificates, tanning certificates, food certificates and more.
Trinkets and Treasures Sale
Come out and see the Trinkets and Treasure Sale at Helena United Methodist on 2035 Highway 58, Helena, Alabama 35080-3729. It will be from 9am-2pm in the fellowship hall. They will have Arts and Craft to support the Girlfriends Ministry
