261 Road Delay Heads Up Commuters! Helena Road (County Road 261) from Old Town Helena to Hwy 31 is suppose to have the northbound lane closed at night from 8pm to 6am starting Sunday night so it will impact your driving times if you normally drive around those times.
It will go on for 4 nights, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation Website. I will check the road Sunday night to confirm and will update if something changes because of the weather. Please Pass this along to your commuting friends.ADOT Website.
UPDATE: I do not see any construction happening. The ADOT still shows it but I guess they have rescheduled it. I will let you know if they post anything
Ken Penhale from the museum is recruiting available history buffs to help him searching through dirt that was taken from the Eureka Mine to see if some artifacts. It will be Monday morning but you first need to call Ken's Cell phone 369-1448. He can take some people but I think there is a limit.
Helena High Colors and Mascot
Tuesday Reminder: A quick reminder that everyone in the Helena community is invited to a meeting on Tuesday, Oct 16th, at 7 PM in the Helena Middle School cafeteria. The purpose of the meeting will be to share information on the selection process for the school colors and mascot that will be used in the coming weeks, how the committee was selected, and the time line for the selection process.
City Council Work Session
There is a work session for the incoming city council and I think the current City Council and Mayor are being invited as well as the Mayor elect. So that should be interesting. It is at 5pm at City Hall.Keep in mind this is only a work session and the incoming council will not be sworn in until the first Monday of November. This is more about discussing upcoming issues with the change in Government. Here's is what the Agenda states:
1. General discussion of transition to Mayor /Council form of Government.
2. General discussion about council procedures
3. General discussion about Boards and committees
4. General discussion about city departments.
By the way, I reorganized the 1460 List so the ideas are put into groups. I passed this along to other council members. No guarantees but I would love to be able to say in 1460 days that all the items were addressed, researched or at least seriously discussed.
