The next HBA meeting tomorrow will be at Golden Rule BBQ in Helena at 8:00 a.m. Guest speaker will be Lisa Shapiro from the Greater Shelby Chamber of Commerce.
You may see some scarecrows at your local Helena business. The HBA is sponsoring a scarecrow contest. This is Sean's entry for Carmella Ice that they posted on facebook.
Weekend Wildness:
This weekend in Helena is going to be packed with fun and free activities for you. We are counting around 8 events happening on Saturday alone. So I am trying to write the weekend post ahead of time If you have any Helena events that are open to the public then let me know soon (including yard sales). There is the HIS Fall Carnival, 50th Annv Cherokee Beach Party, Music at Rio and Papa Saias as well as Alabama Football's Tyrone Prothro will be in town signing autographs and more.
David Schlueter, who is a Helena resident and owns Buck Creek Stained Glass in Old Town Helena, received a message from London England yesterday. It was from the Photographic Director of Elle magazine which is part of Hearst Magazine. They are doing feature on the stained glass in the home and David's creation was chosen. So Buck Creek Stained Glass is about to get some international exposure. Congrats to David and we look forward to seeing the magazine spread.
Today begins our annual blog contest of Best Halloween House in Helena. Here's how it works. You nominate via email the best Halloween decorations in Helena before Friday October 26th. It could be your house or a house you drive by everyday. I just need an address but I would love to have a picture if possible.
Finally on the weekend before Halloween, we send out a crew of volunteer judges to go grade those homes and choose the winner. The winner gets an award and everyone get to know the addresses of the scariest houses in Helena to visit. Past champions have been in the neighborhoods of Braelinn, Old Cahaba, Riverwoods, and Fieldstone. Will your home be the next grand champion?!?!

Andrea posted that Helena Middle School's band is having a fundraiser today. All you have to do is go to at Zaxby's for dinner on Tuesday October 2nd from 5:00-8:00. They will donate 10% of the total of their sales for the entire time!
